ELIZABETH D. "BETTY" VAN DYKE, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.  She was born August 10, 1921 in Herren-Sulzbach, Germany, the daughter of Friederich and Mathilda (Bambaur) Weis. Betty married Rev. Alfred Van Dyke on December 25, 1940 in Wayne Township, New Jersey. She was a secretary for 24 years to the Thornwood High School athletic director in South Holland, Illinois, and served as an officer in the South Suburban Chicago Secretaries Association. After retirement, Betty was on the counseling staff of Y-ME Breast Cancer Organization and Reach to Recovery in both Chicago and Winter Haven, Florida. She taught Sunday School for 40 years and served with her husband in the Gospel ministry. Survivors include her husband, Alfred, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Linnea (Dr. Guy) Chiattello of Waterloo; two sons, Dr. Daniel (Susan) Van Dyke of Rochester, Minnesota and Frederick (Kate) Van Dyke of Buchanan, Michigan; eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild; and a brother, Henry (Lois) Weis of Kinnelon, New Jersey.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Prairie Lakes Church, with interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls.  Memorials may be directed to the family or Prairie Lakes Church.
