Edward Keith Zech, age 72, of Cedar Falls died Tuesday August 13, 2013 in his home with his family by his side. He was born to the late Julius and Katherine (Beenken) Zech in Wellsburg, Iowa on June 13, 1941. Ed graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1959. He moved to Cedar Falls shortly thereafter and went to work for and later owned Christie and Truax Construction Company. That is when he fell in love with the boss's daughter, Barbara. They were married on December 18, 1960 in Cedar Falls. In 1989, he started Zech Construction Company, retiring in 2005. In 1971, after deep study of the Bible, Ed dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Throughout the years Ed volunteered his time in the Christian ministry work. He was chairman of the Regional Building Committee of Jehovah's Witnesses Incorporated of Iowa. Ed used his construction abilities to support the building of new and remodeled places of worship (Kingdom Halls) for Jehovah's Witnesses. This included disaster relief work locally and outside the US. Though retired from Construction work in 2005 he never retired from his Christian ministry or volunteering on Kingdom Hall Projects. Ed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Christie) of Cedar Falls; his sons and their wives: Jeff and Barbara Zech of Wallkill New York; Scott and Nancy Zech of the Dominican Republic; Todd and Julie Zech of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Dan & Annie Zech of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two grandchildren, Sara and Caleb Zech of Cedar Falls, Iowa: 1 Sister, Charlotte Zech of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
