Edward Joseph Brown, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Western Home Communities Nation Cottage. He was born February 9, 1927 in Mundelein, Illinois, the son of Clyde and Hazel (Browning) Brown. Ed married Elsie Skytte on July 26, 1952. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1969. Ed married Lois Priscilla "Penny" (Schrag) Hancock on June 16, 1975. He was a 1945 graduate of Libertyville High School and earned his BME and MME from the University of Illinois in Champagne, Illinois. Ed served overseas in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He taught at the University of Illinois for seven years and later was employed at Titus Manufacturing in research and development. Ed then worked for John Deere & Company in Waterloo, retiring in 1987, and continued working for them under contract until 1999. He was a lifetime member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering), Cedar Falls Kiwanis Club, was a board member of Grin 'n' Grow Child Care, held several positions in the Presbyterian Church, was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Cedar Falls School District, the Waterloo Center for the Arts, and was a 13 gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Ed is survived by his wife, Penny Brown, of Cedar Falls; four sons, Dan (Jan) Brown of Cedar Falls, Terry Hancock of Hayward, California, James (Kim) Hancock , of Cedar Falls, and Edward (Penni) Hancock of Robins, Iowa; two daughters, Jeanne (Tom) Wienzierl of Machesney Park, Illinois, and Susan Perry of Waverly, one daughter in law, Patti (Ken) Brown, of Plymouth, Minnesota; twenty one grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; a son, Kenneth Brown; two sisters, Dorothy (Joseph) Dorgan and Marjorie (Irwin) Simpsen; and a granddaughter, Carrie Jo Hancock.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, AUGUST 25, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 902 Main St. in Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Western Home Communities-transportation and Kiwanis International. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
