Edna M. Dufel, 90, of Hudson, Iowa, died of multiple complications on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She was born November 24, 1917 in Hudson, the daughter of Peder and Christina (Jacobsen) Pedersen. Edna married Herman A. Dufel on September 10, 1942 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1992. Edna was a graduate of Hudson High School and farmed with her husband near Hudson for fifty years, raising five children, including two sets of twins. She was a member of a neighborhood card club and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson.
Survivors include three sons, Garry (Sharon) Dufel of Hudson, Larry (Carol) Dufel of Dike and Donald (Susan) Dufel of Hudson; a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Sammons, of La Porte City; seven grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) Dufel, Kelly (Brian) Breuner, Steph (Pat) Benoit, Melissa (Joseph) Lake, Laura (Kevin) Willms, Cari Jo Dufel and Jordan Gaffney; four step grandchildren, Michael Wagner, Daniel Wagner, Chad Sammons and Erica Sammons; five great grandchildren, Andrew, Kaleb, Evan, Parker and Hannah; and two brothers, Alvin Pedersen of Cedar Falls and Jim (Lovelle) Pedersen of Hudson.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a son, Kenneth Dufel, and two brothers, Robert and Russell Pedersen.
Services will be 10:30 am Friday, January 11, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Hudson. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Thursday, January 10, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Perpetual Fund.
