She trained as a nurse at the Royal Bucks Hospital in Aylesbury, England. Edna immigrated to the United States on July 27, 1953, arriving in New York having sailed on the Queen Mary. She was met by her fiancé, Ernest Bollans, who had emigrated from England on September 13, 1952. They married on July 29, 1953, in Waverly, Iowa; and made their life in Cedar Falls where they worked, loved, and raised two boys.
Edna was employed as a nurse at Western Home, Satori Hospital, and Medical Associates where she worked for many years administering allergy shots. Edna loved her patients and they loved her. She made many friends during her nursing career, and after retirement, she enjoyed monthly dinner dates with them.
Edna celebrated over 50 years of marriage to her true love, Ernest. She enjoyed evening walks holding hands with Ernie, working in their vegetable and flower gardens, and staying up late completing jigsaw puzzles together. Edna also enjoyed country western music and line dancing. She is remembered as a brave, strong, independent woman with a soft British accent, great sense of humor, and a wonderful laugh.
