EDITH L. HERREN BENTROTH, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, born November 7,1909 near Clarinda, Iowa, died July 19, 2005 in Minneapolis, MN. Daughter of C.L. (Roy) and Nettie Woods Herren. She married Robert E. Bentroth on June 25, 1939, who preceded her in death in 1988.  Edith graduated with honors from Iowa State College, the third female Horticulture graduate. After graduation she was on the staff there for several years. She worked in several nursery positions prior to her marriage in 1939 and was a supervisor with the Black Hawk County Department of Human Services at her retirement in 1975.

She was preceded in death by husband Bob, daughter, Robin, sister, Dorothy Cooley, an infant sister, and "almost daughter", Wyona Roberts. Survived by daughter, Linda Thomson, Plymouth, MN, son, James Bentroth, of Albertville, MN, grandson, Michael Thomson of Lake Tahoe, NV, niece, Judy Sheridan, East Grand Forks, MN, grand nephews Adam and Philip Sheridan, Mpls, MN, nieces Pat McCreary and husband Jim, Gardnerville, NV, Maxine McKinny and husband Ned, Mesa, AZ, nephews Gene Hall Granada Hills, CA, Roger Hall, Las Vegas, NV, Robert Schmidt, Burlington, NC, and special friends Mildred Wood, Mary Relihan, Marcia Bellman and Carol Aitkin and others who loved and cared for her.

Edith will be remembered for her generosity, humor, wisdom and warmth. In her later years she continued to demonstrate her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth, and the willingness to adjust to life's changes that characterized her entire life. She lived her declining years graciously- grateful for life's blessings and uncomplaining. Her memory lives on the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of her life will be Thursday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls. Luncheon following and inurnment at Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo.  Memorials may be directed to Habitat for Humanity, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.  Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
