EARL JOHNSON was born May 12, 1917 near New Hartford, Iowa the son of John and Lena (Stroh) Johnson. He married Grace A. Doeden December 29, 1939 at Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo. Earl served in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre during WWII. He was a machinist at John Deere for 17 years retiring in 1982 and was on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Pinto Horse Association. Earl died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at the age of 83 years. Survivors include his wife, Grace, Cedar Falls, Iowa; three sons, Richard Earl Johnson and his wife, Linda, Cedar Falls, David Johnson and his wife, Bev, Prior Lake, Minnesota, Mark A. Johnson and his wife, Wendy, Kelley, Iowa; one daughter, Nancy Tjebkes and her husband, Dudley, Longmont, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Schurman, New Hartford, Pearl Christofferson, Waterloo, and Helen Bramblette, Cedar Falls.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Leona, and one brother, John Johnson, Jr. Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Garden of Memories in Waterloo with military rites conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.  Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the church.
