Douglas E Markey

Douglas E. "Doug" Markey, 77, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at his home in Cedar Falls.   He was born August 12, 1933 in Boone, Iowa, the son of John J. and Hazel (Ean) Markey.  Doug married Patricia A. "Pat" Day on December 26, 1952 in Boone.  He was a 1951 graduate of Boone High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  Doug worked at Western Electric, which later became AT & T and subsequently Alcatel Lucent, for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Markey, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Cheryl (Alan) Kozak of North Pole, Alaska and Brenda Markey Yarlott of Daytona, Florida; two sons, Steve Markey of Denver, Iowa and John (Jennifer) Markey of Oelwein, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Summer (Todd) Swarts of Cedar Falls, Mikel Markey of Brookings, South Dakota, KellyAnn Yarlott of Ocala, Florida, Kris Kozak of North Pole, Alaska, Adam Yarlott of Ocala, Florida, Kyle and Cody Markey, both of Denver, Iowa, and Joseph Markey of Oelwein, Iowa; two great granddaughters, Jaden and Maya Swarts, of Cedar Falls, and a niece, Sue (Lynn) Moklestad, of Forest City, Iowa.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie Lee.

Services will be 10:30 am Friday, January 28, 2011, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Boone, Iowa at a later date.  Visitation will be one hour before the service.  Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Memorials to: Beacon of Hope Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
