Douglas Carl Herbon, 78, of Cedar Falls, passed away at Western Home's Nation Cottage on Monday, February 17, 2025. He was born October 17, 1946, in Evanston, Illinois, son of William Henry and Dorotha Elizabeth (Williams) Herbon. Doug graduated from Evanston Township High School with the Class of 1964, then earned his B.A. in Instrumental Music Education from UNI in 1968 and his M.A. in 1973, also from UNI. He married Connie Marie Johnson on August 1, 1970, in Onawa, Iowa. Doug taught instrumental music for 34 years in Plainfield, Vinton, and Postville before retiring in 2002. After retirement, he tuned pianos. Doug was a member of the Iowa Band Masters, New Horizons Band, and the Waterloo Municipal Band.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie, and his son, Christopher Herbon of Cedar Falls.
Doug's family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 3, 2025, with Visitation from 1-2 pm and a Service at 2. His family will have a private inurnment in Fairview Cemetery of Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the UNI School of Music , the First Presbyterian Church of Cedar Falls , Western Home Communities or Cedar Valley Hospice . Please honor Doug and his family by dressing comfortably in your favorite Panthers, Bears or Cubs clothing.
