Dorothy Fincham Wingert, 96, formerly of La Porte City, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Ozark Manor Retirement Center, Fredericktown, Missouri, of natural causes.  She was born October 25, 1913, in Gilbert, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Mabel Fincham. She married Harold R. Wingert on June 22, 1935, in the Rose Gardens at Iowa State University, Ames. He preceded her in death.  Mrs. Wingert received her home economics degree in 1935 from Iowa State University. She worked as a sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia in the Cedar Valley area. She and her husband also farmed near La Porte City and Garrison from 1952 to 1974, prior to retiring.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (Dean) Arbuckle of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Kathie (John) Thompson of Fredericktown; a son, Bruce (Joann) of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. Fincham.


A celebration of life memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Her body was cremated. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time.  Memorials may be directed to the family at 420 Cordoba Ave., Cedar Falls 50613, for donation to Iowa State University Reiman Gardens.
