Dorothy E. Burke, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, from an aortic aneurysm. She was born August 12, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa, the youngest of six children to John and Frances (Gillette) Glass. Dorothy married William Burke, Jr. on June 5, 1943 in Beloit, Wisconsin. She was a graduate of Waterloo East High School and worked for John Deere & Company for several years. Dorothy later worked with her husband at the family business, The Black Hawk Hotel & Motor Inn, in Cedar Falls. She was the past City of Waterloo Tennis Champion, was a master bridge player and loved to travel. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking, being with her family and hosting parties at her home. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her husband, Bill, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Sue Ann (Bob) Miller of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Patricia (Nick) Keiderling of Wadena, Iowa; two sons, Bill (Kimberly) Burke of Goodyear, Arizona and Robert (Annette) Burke of Waterloo, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Mary Jo Burke, three brothers, Gerald, Don and Jack Glass, and two sisters, Eileen Fay and Helen Mitchell.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday, March 3, 2008, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with inurnment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo at a later date. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Sunday, March 2, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, where a 7:00 pm Vigil Service will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
