Donna J. Cuvelier, 90, Cedar Falls, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and deep family connection.
Donna was born on February 9, 1936, in Elm Creek, Nebraska, to Arthur and Elsie (Johnson) Lloyd. She graduated from Dumont High School and went on to build a life centered around her family and community. She married Walt Cuvelier in January of 1955 they shared many years together and were later divorced, and together they raised two children, Kim and Scott.
Donna dedicated her early years to raising her family, creating a home filled with warmth, care, and strong values. Later in life, she began working in personnel at John Deere, where she remained until her retirement in 1993.
Before her cancer progressed, Donna was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She participated in Bible studies and was involved in a women’s circle, forming meaningful friendships and staying rooted in her faith.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Kim (Dave) Hummel and Scott (Debbie) Cuvelier; her grandchildren, Brandon (Kari) Hummel, Jarren (Jennifer) Hummel, and Morgan (Kasey) Moon; and her seven great-grandchildren—Hudsen, Payton, Grace, Eleanor, Isabella, Ashton, and Sawyer—who brought her immense joy. She was affectionately known as “GG,” a title she wore proudly—even displaying it on her license plate as a reflection of how much her role as a great-grandmother meant to her.
Donna came from a large and loving family. She had six siblings—five sisters and one brother. All of her sisters preceded her in death; Gloriann, Delores, Joyce, Linda and Jan. She is survived by her loving brother, James (Babs) Lloyd; brother-in-law, Jim (Marlys) Cuvelier; sisters-in-law, Jan (Dick) Pautvein and Linda (Harlan) Pruin, as well as several nieces and nephews who meant so much to her.
She was known for the way she stayed deeply connected with her family—always sending thoughtful cards, never forgetting a birthday, and making special trips to visit her brother Jim in Virginia. These small but meaningful gestures were a reflection of how much she cherished the people in her life.
Donna had a generous spirit and was deeply involved in her community. She volunteered with Satori, helped serve meals through her church, and was active in the Cedar Falls Women’s Club and PEO, Satori Auxiliary, and Festival of Trees. She found great purpose in giving back and building connections with those around her.
Donna will be remembered for her kindness, her steady presence, and the love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the generations she cherished so deeply.
Donna’s memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the First United Methodist Church (718 Clay Street, Cedar Falls). Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service at church on Friday (5/22). She will be inurned in Cedar Valley Memorial Garden at a later date.
