Donald J Stewart

Donald J. Stewart, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, October 2, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was born March 16, 1925 in Waterloo, the son of Maxwell J. and Vivian (Osborn) Stewart. Don married Evelyn Louise Isley on April 18, 1946 in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2003. Don graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1943 and served in the United States Navy during WW II. He was a mail carrier for the Cedar Falls Post Office for thirty-two years, retiring in 1980.

Survivors include his son, Donald (Nancy) Stewart, of Aplington, Iowa; two daughters, Linde "Stub" Hoppes and Pegg "Missy" (Bob) Neuhaus, both of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Kelly (Gary) Crase, David (Diane) Walvatne, Bill (Cindy) Stewart, and Amanda Stewart, and two great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his wife and parents; a daughter, Vicki Jo Stewart; a sister, Bonnie Goldenstein, and two brothers, Cleo and Robert Stewart.

Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4—7:00 pm Tuesday, October 6, and one hour before service, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.
