Donald C. Rasmussen

Donald C. Rasmussen, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Western Home Communities Windhaven Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls. He was born January 19, 1923 in Graettinger, Iowa, the son of William and Esther (Lande) Rasmussen. Don married Marilyn E. McGrath at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls on October 4, 1980. He graduated from Graettinger High School and attended Waldorf Jr. College in Forest City. Don served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty years and with the United States Justice Department for sixteen years, retiring in 1978. He is survived by one son, Daniel Walters, of Sparta, Wisconsin; four daughters, Sue Rogers of Tucson, Arizona, Julianne (Steve) Tyler of Memphis, Tennessee, Janet (Lorne) Bidwell Cedar Falls, and Amy Walters of Des Moines; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Lange, of Des Moines. Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers, Ralph and William and Richard Rasmussen. Services will be 10:00 am Friday, July 6, 2012, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 47:00 pm Thursday, July 5, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
