Donald E. "Big Don" Olson, 66, of Waterloo, died Thursday, September 27, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He was born March 14, 1941 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Walter and Gladys I. (Tank) Olson. Donald was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and farmed near Cedar Falls for many years. He also owned and operated a gas station on Lincoln St. in Cedar Falls and "Big Don's" restaurants in Cedar Falls, Denver and Reinbeck. Donald was a member of the Cedar Falls Eagles Club, the Sportsman Club and the PTO Tractor Club.
Survivors include his son, Wiatt Olson, of Waterloo; his daughter, Candace, of Washington, DC; his sister, Joann (Ray) Robinson, of Janesville, and two nieces, Barbara Robinson of Cedar Falls and Beverly (Brian) Bahlmann and family of Plainfield, Iowa.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Brenda Robinson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, October 1, 2007, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with interment at Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3—7:00 pm Sunday, and one hour before the service, at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
