Donald L Nielsen

Donald L. Nielsen, 74, of Waterloo, died Friday, July  1, 2011, at his home in Waterloo. He was born August 7, 1936, in Hudson, Iowa, the son of Chris A. and Thora E. (Christensen) Nielsen.  Donald married Bernardine Ann Heath June 18, 1955 in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death August 24, 2002. Before his retirement, Donald worked for Benton Sand & Gravel, formerly Assink Brothers Sand & Gravel.

Donald is survived by three sons, Mike Nielsen of Waterloo, Jeff (Julie) Nielsen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Tony (Erika) Nielsen of Waterloo; one daughter, Christine (Steve) Squires of Hudson; one daughter in law, Rochelle Nielsen of Janesville; 10 grandchildren;  9 great grandchildren; two brothers, Allen (Judy) Nielsen, and Dennis (Myong) Nielsen, both of Cedar Falls, and one brother in law, Jerry Mayne of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Timothy Nielsen; one brother, Eugene Nielsen and two sisters, Mary Mayne and one in infancy.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
