DONALD A. KNUDSEN was born June 6, 1925 in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Albert and Helga (Larsen) Knudsen. He married Bernita Thomsen on August 26, 2000 in Toledo, Iowa. Don served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a farmer for over 50 years in rural Cedar Falls. He was a member of Fredsville Lutheran Church, Dike American Legion Post 471, the Danish Brotherhood, and served on the Board of Directors of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home and the Farmers Cooperative in Dike, Iowa. Don died Friday, October 31, 2003, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls, at 78 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Bernita, of Dike; his children, Judith Knudsen of Green Bay, Wisconsin, David (Marsha) Knudsen of Anamosa, Iowa, Larry (Deanne) Knudsen of Chicago, Illinois and Janice (Steve) Michaud of Clive, Iowa; three step-children, Sandra (Steve) Birrell of Bozeman, Montana, Mike (Pam) Thomsen of Canyon Country, California and Michelle (Bert) Evans of Tama, Iowa; five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild; four sisters, Eunice Rocca of Cedar Falls, Erma Roethler of Waterloo, Valera (Kenny) Schroder of Estherville, Iowa and Velma (Duane) Wessel of New Hartford, Iowa, and two brothers, Dale (Fern) Knudsen of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Keith (Vernice) Knudsen of Neenah, Wisconsin. Don was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at Fredsville Lutheran Church with burial in Fredsville Cemetery, both in rural Cedar Falls.  Military committal rites were conducted by Dike American Legion Post 471.  Memorials may be directed to the church or the charity of the donor's choice.
