Donald R. Gibson

Donald R. Gibson, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. He was born October 24, 1924 in Akron, Ohio, the son of Harry M. and Hazel (Richey) Gibson. Donald married Bernice E. Weese December 26, 1948 in Akron, Ohio. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. Donald was an ordained Presbyterian minister and served churches in Dayton and Zanesville, Ohio, Neenah, Wisconsin, and Rock Island, Illinois. He retired in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Bernice E. Gibson, of Cedar Falls; one son, Donald R. (Cindy) Gibson, Jr., of Evergreen, Colorado; two daughters, Kathryn S. Duke (David Beaty), of Cedar Falls, and Margaret E. (Phillip) Mann, of Chesapeake, Virginia; eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and five step great grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to the family.
