For many years he played softball for several local and church teams. Don enjoyed game hunting in the mountains of the west, mostly in Montana. He spent many hours watching or helping in the pits at the stock car races or the drag races. At the age of 40 he learned to ski. Don continued to ski each year taking many friends and family on his skiing adventures. After retirement, he took up golfing and biking. Don rode RAGBRAI until he was 79 years old. He was an avid "Hawkeye" fan. Traveling to the mountains to hike and sight-see were also a joy for him. Most important to him was spending time with his family and especially all of his great-grandchildren.
