Dolores "Dee" Voorhees
Tuesday, June 9th, Heaven welcomed home Dolores Gaynell Voorhees. She passed away at the age of 88 surrounded by her family and friends.
Born July 5, 1931 in Stratford, Dee was a free-spirited Iowa farm girl at heart, spending nearly all of her life in the Hawkeye State.
In 1950, she married Richard Webrand and soon welcomed three beautiful daughters: Debbie, Pam and Terrie. In 1968, Dee married Maynard Voorhees, her eternal soul mate with whom she will be laid to rest, enjoying 24 wonderful years as his wife. Following Maynard's death, she married Gene Gaulke in 1993. They were married 10 years.
However, the true love of her life was music, a passion she carried from childhood to her last days. She founded the Cedar Falls Senior Center Jam Session for which she won a Midwest All Music Association Award in 2015.
She is survived by her three daughters, Debbie Miller, Pamela Houston, and Terrie Boatright, her six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and many stepchildren and step grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 13th at Greenwood Cemetery at 11am. A Celebration of Life reception will be held afterwards at the AMVETS in Cedar Falls at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cedar Valley Hospice
