Dean Allen Brandt, 81, of Cedar Falls, passed away at UPH/Allen Hospital on Monday, November 3, 2025. He was born in Morrison on April 3, 1944, son of Roy and Vera (Allgood) Brandt. Dean attended school in St Ansgar but graduated from Crestwood High School in 1962, after a family relocation placed him in a different school district for his senior year. Following high school he hauled milk for a dairy, then worked for Oliver Tractors for a couple years. He was, then, hired at John Deere where he worked as a Machine Operator for 34 years before retiring in 1998. He was also a member of the Iowa National Guard for six years. Dean married Delight Ann Hanson on July 16, 1967, in Flandreau, SD. They made their home on a small farm near Denver where they raised their two children and enjoyed 40 years of marriage.
From an early age, Dean had an affinity for "old stuff". He and his brother Buck founded the John Deere Collector's Club and he helped form the PTOS (Preserving the Old Stuff) tractor club in Denver. Dean was also an active member at Antique Acres. He owned over 100 vintage tractors, a 1931 Ford Model A car and other machinery and antiques that reminded him of his childhood and family. Dean enjoyed connecting with family, friends and strangers over these old artifacts.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother, Ronald. He is survived by his children: Lowell Brandt and Laura (Thor) Baldus all of Cedar Falls; his granddaughter, Elizabeth (Ezra Esquer) Werner of Waterloo; his brother, Burnett "Buck" (Bonnie) of Cedar Falls; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Dean's family will host a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am on Friday, November 14, 2025, with visitation the evening prior from 5-7:00 pm all at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Messinger/Jefferson Cemetery of rural Denver. Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation.
