David Allen Murley

David Allen Murley, 82, Janesville, died Saturday, October 17, 2026 at the Shell Rock Healthcare Center.

David was born April 13, 1944 in Waterloo to the late Thomas and Martha (Shaw) Murley. He attended Janesville High School. David married his high school sweetheart, Sheryl Ann Bowen, on October 23, 1959. The couple were blessed with two sons, Scott and David. He worked for John Deere for 31 years as a painter in the Final Prep department, retiring in 1995. David also did bodywork on the side for many years. David and Sheryl celebrated 52 years together prior to her death on March 30, 2012.

David deeply loved his family and enjoyed every minute he spent with them. He was also very active in

his community, serving as the Janesville summer recreation director, coaching little league and playing fast pitch softball. David was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and LA Dodger fan and loved the music of Elvis Presley. David and Sheryl enjoyed traveling together and the occasional trip to the casinos.

David is survived by his sons, Scott (Chris) Murley of Waverly and David Murley Jr. of Dubuque; grandchildren, Bo Murley of Elkhorn, NE and Shelby (Andrew) Lacina of Gretna, NE; great-grandson, Tommy Lacina; brother, Richard (Betty) Murley of Waterloo; his dog Buddy and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Tommy (Shirley) Murley, James Murley, Ramona (Carl) Neumann and Faye Renner.

A private service for David will be held at a later date. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family.
