Listen to Obituary

David "Dave" J. Keffeler, 70, died at his home in Cedar Falls, IA, on April 30, 2024.

Dave was born in Manchester, IA, on September 2, 1953, the son of Edward and Opal (Kohls) Keffeler. He graduated from Beckman High School in Dyersville, Class of 1971. Following graduation, Dave enrolled at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a degree in education in 1975. During college, Dave worked as a student janitor and eventually became a full-time employee working custodial services at UNI for a number of years. He also worked in custodial services and building maintenance for the Western Home Communities, Lutheran Home (NewAldaya Lifescapes), retiring in 2020.

In his younger years, Dave enjoyed traveling the country, experiencing new things and visiting friends. He was also a huge baseball fan. Dave loved the outdoors and being in nature. He was an avid bicyclist before issues with his knees prevented him from riding. When he couldn't bike, he found a new love in walking. Dave walked all over Cedar Falls and spent countless hours walking nature trails around the Cedar Valley and at the UNI Prairie Center.

David is survived by his four sisters, Barbara (Dennis) Davidson of Little Canada, MN, Meg (Bruce) Walker of Vinton, Lynn (Kevin Schwendinger) Keffeler of Bellevue, and Sarah Keffeler-Gibson of Dyersville; and nieces, Ann (Luke) Miller, Olivia Schwendinger (fiancé, Lee Ceriers), Caitlin Gibson, and Jordyn Gibson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Beckman; and sister, Marilyn Lyons.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Public Radio .
