David Eugene Hoffman, 73, of Bloomington, MN, died Monday, February 24, 2025, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
David was born in Cedar Falls, IA, on May 15, 1951, the son of Donald C. and Donna M. (Ferns) Hoffman. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School, class of 1969, and went on to Iowa State University where he received an Engineering degree. Following graduation, he began working for the Donaldson Company where he stayed his entire career. David worked at the Donaldson plant in Cresco, IA, before transferring to their Bloomington, MN, location in 1974. He became their hazmat engineer and paint specialist, often traveling to plants across the US and Mexico for problem resolution. David took early retirement from Donaldson's in 2008 to spend more time at his Minnesota cabin on Spirit Lake.
David had an interest in science and was a volunteer at the St. Paul Science Museum for over 20 years. He was an avid Iowa State football fan and followed the Iowa State teams and Minnesota Twins. David also enjoyed golfing, fishing off his pontoon, and spending time at his lakeside cabin in Minnesota.
David is survived by his sister, Dixie (Tom) Anderson of Greene, IA; nephews, Matt Belz, James (Michele) Anderson, Luke Anderson, Nick Anderson, and Thomas (Vanessa) Anderson; niece, Aeryn Anderson; and longtime friend, Jill Flanders. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, George and Mae Hoffman, and Ray and Zella Ferns; and sister, Debbie Belz.
David's funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Dahl-Van Hove Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with visitation an hour prior. Graveside service will immediately follow at Washington Chapel Cemetery north of Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to
First United Methodist Church
