David James Goetz

David James Goetz, 72, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was born April 7, 1942 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Wishart) Goetz. David married Maureen Gore on December 8, 1962. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, graduated with a B.A. in Economics from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, and earned his M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. David worked for three decades at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 2001. Since 1992, he founded and operated a self-storage business in Cedar Falls where his granddaughters, Ashlynn and Ashley, assisted him. He was a member of Cedarloo Church of Christ. David is survived by his wife, Maureen Goetz, of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Rebecca (Kurt) Brugman, of Olathe, Kansas; a son, Mitchell (Sharon) Goetz, of Apex, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis (Carole) Goetz of Waterloo and Richard (Donna) Goetz of Decatur, Illinois, and a sister, Carol Bargmann, of Sartell, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond Goetz and James Goetz in infancy, and two sisters, Lois Minard and Mary Mattson. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial Monday, January 5, at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, and one hour before service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Cedarloo Church of Christ or Cedar Valley Hospice.
