David Bruce Carmichael, 70, died at his home in Tripoli, Monday, December 23, 2013. He was born on February 3, 1943 in Cedar Falls, the son of Arthur and Arlynn (Rumble) Carmichael. He married Sally Idso on February 8, 1964 Preston, Minnesota. David worked at Titus Manufacturing for three years and John Deere as a supervisor at Waterloo Works for 39 ½ years, retiring in 2005. David was an avid snowmobiler and served in all offices of the Snohawks snowmobile club which he founded in 1969. He was a member of the Iowa State Snowmobile Association (ISSA) in which he held the following offices; assistant Region Director, Region Director, Vice President, President and Treasurer. David Co-Founded the Emergency Funding Committee (EFC) of ISSA and served as President and Treasurer. He was featured in the Snowmobile Magazines as the "Most Valuable Snowmobiler". David was the Co-Founder of ISSA Education and Scholarship Foundation and served as Treasurer. He was inducted into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame in 2005 and served as a board member and treasurer. He was Inducted into the Iron Dog Brigade (prestigious group of snowmobilers who have made a HUGE impact on the sport of snowmobiling). David was the International Snowmobile groomer of the year in 2009. He and Sally received the 2013 ISSA Lifetime Service Award. David was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Sally loved to camp and go on long road trips with their fifth wheel camper which included an 8400 mile trip in (3) provinces of Canada and 14 States in 53 days in July and August of 2013. David is survived by his wife, Sally Carmichael, of Tripoli; one son Brian (Angie) Carmichael, of Aplington, Iowa; one daughter, Kimberly Carmichael, of Vinton, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kayla (Zach) Wayne, Hunter and Bryce Carmichael; two great grandchildren, Karder and Tate Wayne; one brother, Bob (Chris) Carmichael, of Unionville, Missouri; three sisters, June Ceaglske, Nancy (Kim) Dutler, and Jean Haes, all of Cedar Falls; one brother in law, Dick Melick, of Cedar Falls, and one sister in law, Shirley Carmichael, of Pharr, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Art Carmichael Jr and one sister Anne "Susie" Melick. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls.
