David Allen Brooks

David Allen Brooks, 76, Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at UnityPoint Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

Dave was born March 29, 1949 in Waterloo to the late Orval Dexter and Leola Evangeline (Perry) Brooks.  He is a 1967 graduate of Cedar Falls High School.  Dave married the love of his life Suellyn Kay Colvin, having met while they were children, on July 5, 1969 in Cedar Falls.  The couple were blessed with two children: Matthew and Sarah.  Dave worked for 30 years as a machinist & scheduler planner with John Deere and 9 years as a part-time police officer in Denver.

Dave was a very thoughtful, caring and fun husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He was known to be extremely generous and had very strong opinions on all subjects.  Dave's favorite pastime was anything dealing with cars.  He was a tremendously talented drag racer holding a world record for his class leading to being undefeated for five years and a who's who in drag racing.

Dave is survived by his wife of 56 years, Suellyn; children, Matthew David (Janice) Brooks of Denver and Sarah (Joel) Oltrogge of Denver; grandchildren, Matthews's: Noah, Zach, Max and Ben and Sarah's: Norah (Ashton) and Gretchen; brother, Steven (Francine) Brooks; honorary son, Brice (Jenessa) Haskin of Story City; and extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his sisters, 3-year-old Caroline Brooks and Orvola "Dee" Hoover.

Dave's memorial service will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at the funeral home resuming at 9:30 AM on Monday until the time of service.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a future charitable donation in Dave's memory.
