David E. Bird, 65, of Irving, Texas, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Baylor Medical Center in Irving, from complications of triple bypass surgery. He was born June 21, 1948 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Archie & Patricia (Brown) Bird. David married Billie Taylor July 15, 2011 in Irving, Texas. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1966. David had worked for Wagner Overhead Door, Hawkeye Metal Spinning and had taught school for over forty years, retiring from North Linn Schools in May of 2012. Survivors include his wife, Billie Bird, of Irving, Texas; one son, Rory Bork, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Mike (Donna) Bird, of Oxnard, California and Gary (Cheryl) Bird of Waterloo, and two sisters, SuEllen Nicol and Linda (Mark) Stover, both of Cedar Falls. David was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Justin Bird. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 at Bethany Bible Chapel. Burial will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at Bethany Bible Chapel. A memorial fund will be established. David loved anything sports. He had a sense of humor and always had a witty comeback.
