Darryl Edward Sherwood, 76, of Dike, Iowa, died Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Mercy One Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born August 14, 1942 in Cedar Falls, the son of Edward and Arvilla (Jacobsen) Sherwood. Darryl married Peggy Jean Oltman on October 2, 1964 at Lincoln Center Reformed Church, rural Dike. He graduated from Dike High School and was a farmer and dairyman on his family's farm in rural Dike. He later worked at the Hudson Creamery and then was a farm hand with Stewart Farm, rural Dike. Darryl retired as a custodian at UNI in 2010, after 33 years of service. He was an active member of Fredsville Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and the education committee.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Peggy Sherwood, of Dike; his daughter, Julie (Tim) Leonard, of Osceola, Iowa and his son, Brad (Carrie) Sherwood, of Dike; two grandchildren, Madeline and Carter Sherwood, of Dike; his brother, Delmar (Carol) Sherwood, of Brooklyn, Iowa, and his sister, Denise (John) Abels, of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Fredsville Lutheran Church, with burial at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the church or the family, for future charity designation. Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
