Darrel Porter

Darrel J. Porter, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at his home.  He was born December 3, 1926 in Cedar Falls, the son of Frank & Grace (Day) Porter.  He married Barbara Voorhees and they later divorced.  He married Kathleen Engleman June 28, 1986 in Cedar Falls.  Darrel served in the Army Signal Corp during WWII.  He owned and operated Porter's Camera Store for 51 years, retiring in 1999.  His memberships include Arcturus, the American Legion, Duck's Unlimited and Pheasant's Forever.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Porter of Cedar Falls; his son, William (DeAnn) Porter of Michigan; two daughters, Marsha Porter of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Diane Porter of Fargo, North Dakota; eight grandchildren, Brandon and Ben Porter, William Peterson, Ellen Peterson-, Beckett Peterson, Anne Holvick Jane Zahalka and John Preston and eight great grandchildren.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Porter.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery.  Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to C & W Rustic Hollow Shelter in Nashua, Black Hawk Wildlife Rehabilitation  Project or UnityPoint Hospice .   Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
