Darrel D. "Tub" Kelling, 70, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo. He was born January 19, 1940, in Fredericksburg, Iowa, the son of Waldo and Darlena (Weidler) Kelling. Darrel married Shirley Harkin on November 5, 1961 in Waterloo. He was a graduate of East Waterloo High School and was employed for seventeen years at the Gerald Sulky Company in Waterloo, and was a self-employed painter for thirty-one years.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Dan D. (Melinda) Kelling and Dave D. (Chris) Kelling, both of Cedar Falls; three grandsons, Mason, Trevor and Daulton Kelling; a brother, Kerry K. Kelling, of Cedar Falls; two nephews, Creston (Mary Kay) Van Way, of Dewar and Craig (Debra) Cook, of Cedar Falls; a niece, Betty (Len) Swiatly, of Cedar Falls, eight great nieces and nephews and eleven great great nieces and nephews.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Max Allen Kelling and Gerald Lee Kelling, and a sister, Margaret Jane Kelling.
Services will be 10:30 am Monday, September 20, 2010, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Visitation will be 2—5:00 pm Sunday, September 19, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
