Darrel Johnson

Darrel E. Johnson, 67, of Cedar Falls, died of natural causes Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at his home. Darrel was born November 30, 1948 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Darrel M. & Bessie (Frederick) Johnson. He married Glenda Miller April 18, 1969 in Manchester, Iowa. Darrel served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was employed at John Deere & Company and a was member of United Auto Workers.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda, of Cedar Falls; his son, Darrel S. Johnson, of Waterloo; his daughter, Billie Jo (Jason) Azbill, of Cedar Falls, two grandsons, Jason Azbill, Jr. and Brock Azbill; three brothers, Les (Charlene) Johnson, of Marion, Iowa, Scott Scott, of Oneida, Iowa and Dean Scott, of Dubuque, Iowa; four sisters, Sandy (George) Hayek, of Clutier, Iowa, Shirley (Jeff) Tardiff, of Florida, Laura (John) Heffernen, of Manchester and Gina (Craig) Bryan, of Montezuma, Iowa; and his brother in law, John Bisbee, of Waterloo.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Scotty Scott; and his sister, Judy Bisbee.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 2:00—5:00 p.m. Sunday, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church. Darrel adored his children and grandchildren as well as his whole family and will miss all the special times at the racetrack.
