Darlene L. Cooney, 87, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She was born September 24, 1919 in Waterloo, the daughter of Jacob Jay and Mable (Chapin) Miller. Darlene graduated from West High School in Waterloo. She married B. W. (Bob) Havenstrite on April 26, 1940 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1970. Darlene married Martin Cooney on November 27, 1971 in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1982. Before her retirement, Darlene worked as a bank teller for First Federal Savings & Loan in Venice, Florida. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, the Cedar Falls Chapter of D. A. R., PEO Chapter I U, and the Waterloo Garden Club.

Darlene is survived by two sons, Michael (Diana) Havenstrite of Cedar Falls and Robert (Pat) Havenstrite of Harrison, Arkansas; one daughter, Sara (Bill) Rumley, of LaPorte, Colorado; two step sons, Donald Cooney of Seattle, Washington and Thomas (Catherine) Cooney of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three grandchildren, Jon (Alana) Havenstrite, Pamela Havenstrite and Jennifer (Michael) Duncan; two great grandchildren, Ellie and Natalie Havenstrite; one sister, Ethyl May Crosswaite, of Waterloo, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands; two grandsons, James Havenstrite and Jason Robert Havenstrite; one stepson, Robert Cooney, and one sister, Lucy Jane Parrott.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2007, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the family.
