Darlene Ella Louise Cannon, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Darlene was born June 16, 1926 in St. Anthony, Iowa, the daughter of Albert & Gertrude (Mayer) Koch. She married James Ray Cannon March 2, 1946 in St. Anthony, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2010. Darlene graduated from St. Anthony High School and State College of Iowa (University of Northern Iowa). She taught for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1987 from North Cedar Elementary School in Cedar Falls. Darlene was a member of Tuesday Club, the Association of Childhood Education, American Business Women's Association and First Christian Church. Survivors include three daughters, Cathy (Phil) Petersen of Chula Vista, California, Cheri (Gary) Williams of Kansas City, Missouri and Susie (Don) Christensen of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; six grandchildren, Laura (Chris) Reich, Adam (Kristen) Cannon, Nic Bartels, Shelby Bartels, Alisa Christensen and Eric Christensen; three great grandchildren, David Reich, Kate Cannon and Matt Cannon; and a brother, Don Koch, of Glenville, Minnesota. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, Douglas Cannon; a brother, Kenneth Koch, and a sister, Shirley Gallentine. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at First Christian Church, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
