Daniel Robert Hughes, 76, of Cedar Falls, died on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on September 21, 1948, to the late Robert A. Hughes, Jr. and Joan (Caley) Hughes, and graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1966. Daniel served four years in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for Cedar Falls Utilities as a lineman and job planner for over 30 years prior to his retirement. On February 22, 1969, Daniel married the love of his life, LeAnn King at the Raymond Methodist Church in Raymond, IA. He was a devoted husband for nearly 56 years before LeAnn's death on February 17, 2025.

Daniel was an avid outdoorsman, spending time camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved to hunt deer and duck. He was also a talented woodworker. Daniel crafted his own longbow for deer hunting, as well as, duck decoys he would use on duck hunting trips. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Phoebe, taking her to the park or lake every day. Above all, Daniel loved his wife and took great care of her throughout their marriage.

Daniel is survived by his two sons, Brandon (Kala) Hughes of Cedar Falls, and Ryan (Shana) Hughes of Janesville; two grandchildren, Dani and Taylor Hughes; two step-grandchildren, Taylor and Allison Johnson; siblings, Michael (Yvonne) Hughes, and Kim (Ron) Kelly; beloved dog, Phoebe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Debra Frost.

Daniel's celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 12pm-3pm at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Post 4074, 2125 W Lone Tree Road, in Cedar Falls, with military honors at 2pm.
