DALLAS LEE HURLBUT was born December 15, 1924, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the son of Lee and Leoti (Billman) Hurlbut. He married Martha Marie Bruene on June 1, 1950, near Traer, Iowa. Dallas served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Savo Island in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during W.W. II. He was a self-employed truck driver for many years, was a driver for W.R. Arthur and Carnation, and was a poultry farmer for Hy-Line International until his retirement. Dallas was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Cedar Valley Lodge #233, the Cedar Falls Encampment #47, the Cedar Canton #30, the Happy Thought Rebekah Lodge #256 and a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. He was Past Department Commander of the Department Council of Iowa and the Past Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Iowa. Dallas died Thursday, September 7, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 75 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Martha, of Cedar Falls; his two daughters, Marilyn Hurlbut of Cedar Falls and Evelyn Falk (Ken) of Chandler, Arizona; his son, Robert Hurlbut (Kim) of Cedar Falls and three grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Hurlbut and Kristine Falk. Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dallas Lewis Hurlbut and a sister, Lillian G. Miller.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2000, at First Baptist Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
