Dallas "Butch" Don Dove, 89, of New Hartford, Iowa, passed away peacefully at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was born March 8, 1935, in Beaver Township, the son of George and Maud (Stirling) Dove. Butch was a 1953 graduate of New Hartford High School where he was an accomplished athlete. After graduation, he began working for Waterloo Corrugated Box Company where he continued playing baseball and basketball on league teams and retired after 47 years of service. Butch also served in the United States Army in Germany. He married Mary Lee Norton on July 15, 1961, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Mary Lee; a daughter, Candi Marie Dove, a grandson, Brady Dallas Dove, and siblings: Wally, Kathryn, Donna and Keith. He is survived by his children: Brent (Burnette) Dove of New Hartford, Byron (Laura) Dove of Dike, Marlas (Steve) Latwesen of New Hartford; grandchildren: Madison Dove, Hannah (Nicholas) Giesemann, Matthew (Shelby) Dove, Ashtyn (Zach) Dietiker, Carlee Dove, Kelsey Latwesen, Sydney Latwesen and Parker Latwesen; 5 great-grandchildren: Ellory and Ruby Dove, Brayden and Colton Dietiker and Harper Giesemann; a sister, Winifred Clayton; and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Butch's Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the New Hartford Community Church with Visitation the evening prior from 4-6:00 pm at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford. Memorials may be directed to: Directed to the family for disbursement to Veteran and Hospice organizations
Butch enjoyed food and treasured coffee and cookie dates with the neighbors and snacking on popcorn, peanut M&Ms, cookies and Lays potato chips. Many of his routine outings involved fast food with his family members which often included Culvers, McDonalds and ice cream stops. Butch liked to spend time on the acreage with his dogs and take ranger rides to patrol the neighborhood. Above all else, he loved his family and never missed his grandchildren's activities. When health no longer allowed, he would proudly watch videos of their events and/or get phone calls from the kids giving him play by plays.
