Dale L. Schatzberg, 65, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the V. A. Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born January 25, 1949 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Otis and Alice (Christoffersen) Schatzberg. Dale married Dorothy Leedy on May 28, 1978, and they divorced in December of 2005. He attended Finchford Consolidated School from kindergarten through fifth grade, and Waverly-Shell Rock from sixth grade through twelfth grade, graduating in 1967. Dale served in the U.S. Army from March 3, 1969 to May 20, 1972. He served in the Republic of Vietnam Conflict from January 25, 1970 to September 29, 1970, when he was wounded in action. Dale served with Charlie Co., 1st of 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Mobile). He farmed from 1979 through 2011. Survivors include two daughters, Terri (Randy) Thomsen of Janesville and Anne Jones of Waverly; his son, Nick (Alisha) Jones, of Oak Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a brother, Gary (Pat) Schatzberg, of Cedar Falls. Dale was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Finchford Community Bible Church, with burial at Finchford Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 47:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.
