Dale Eugene Modlin, 96, of Conrad, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. He was born in Galt, Iowa on January 5, 1929, to the late Obediah and Ingeborg (Rasmussen) Modlin. He attended country school thru eighth grade and one year of high school in Iowa Falls. His family then moved to Grundy Center where he graduated high school in 1947. Dale married Helen Roark on January 7, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They started farming and milking Guernsey cattle in 1951 south of Grundy Center and continued farming until 1965. Dale then started working for American Cyanamid, eventually becoming location manager for them and later for Butler-Grundy Farm Service. He retired in 1994 after 30 years of service.
Dale was an extremely crafty and talented woodworker. He helped build a number of houses, including three of his own, and built furniture and wooden craft items that are still use by his family today. During the winter months, Dale and Helen would live at their second home in Apache Junction, AZ, where they were snowbirds for 15 seasons. He was a proud member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Grundy Center Methodist Church. What Dale loved most was his family and attending his children's and grandchildren's athletic events.
Dale is survived by his wife of 75 years, Helen Modlin of Conrad; son Dennis (Barb) Modlin of Gladbrook; two grandchildren: Megan (Josh) Johnson of Muscatine and Matthew Modlin of Cedar Falls; three great-grandchildren: Ava, Isabella, and Hanna Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Myers; and two siblings: Ralph (Alice) Modlin and Frances (William) Sievert.
Dale's celebration of life will be at the Cornerstone Methodist Church in Grundy Center on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11am with visitation an hour prior. A reception will follow the service at the church. A private inurnment will take place later. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions to his family for future designation.
