Dale M. Coates

Dale M. Coates, 94, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center. Dale was born March 31, 1917, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of John William & Gertrude Irene (Metcalfe) Coates. He married Gladys June Coates August 24, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death November 3, 2010. Dale served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He worked for Brunskill Dairy, farmed, and worked in the heating plant at UNI for 20 years. Survivors include his son, John (Linda) Coates, of Marina, California; two daughters, Pam (Don) Poggensee, of Ida Grove, Iowa and Lonna (David) Christie, of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, William (Petrina) Risso, Sabrina (Jose) Guevara, Dale Coates, Katie Boyce, Abby Mohlis, Jessica Christie and Megan Christie; and six great grandchildren, Anthony & Portia Risso, Angel, Ernesto, Johnathan & Brilynn Guevara. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and wife; a sister in infancy, Marie Coates, and two brothers, Don Coates and Burton Coates. Private family graveside services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls at a later date. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
