Claude "Jim" Nelson

Claude "Jim" Nelson, 82, of Cedar Falls, died at home on Sunday, May 10, 2015. Jim was born March 13, 1933, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ernest Tanner and Gladys May (Crowell) Nelson. He married Virginia Roberts April 15, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hudson, Iowa. He received his GED from Hawkeye Tech in 1979. He worked in the garage door business in sales, customer service to installation and repair for more than 60 years, retiring in 2014. He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Sis" Nelson, of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Debra J. (Randy) Hickok of Destin, Florida; one granddaughter, Carissa J. Hickok of Destin, Florida; one great-grandson, Carson J. Hickok of Destin, Florida; a special cousin, Dorthy Smalley of Salem, Illinois, and special family friends, Roger and Rosie Uhlenhopp. Jim was preceded in death by infant twin daughters, Claudine May and Claudette Mae Nelson; his parents; one brother, Richard H. Nelson and one sister, Ethel E. Johnson. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, and also one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
