CLARENCE O.
BRUHN, 102, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Janesville, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center. He was born February 1, 1903 in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Chris and Anna (Ostergaard) Bruhn. Clarence married Emma Romain Mayse on March 30, 1942 in Jefferson City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on September 18, 1990. Clarence worked with his father and brothers at Bruhn's Meat Market in Cedar Falls. He later farmed at Jubilee and Black Hawk County, Iowa. Clarence owned and operated the Janesville Locker for many years and was mayor of Janesville from 1950-1967 and 1972-1973. He also served with the Iowa National Guard for sixteen years. Clarence was a member of Janesville United Methodist Church, the Janesville Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge and Boy Scouts of America, where he was awarded the Order of the Arrow and the Silver Beaver Award.
Survivors include his sons, Fred Bruhn of Janesville and Allan (Judith Shafer) Bruhn of Waterloo, and one grandchild.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and wife; three sisters, Julia Schaffenburg, Esther Grau and Dora Dunlap, and two brothers, Holger and Harry Bruhn.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, at Janesville United Methodist Church, with interment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Janesville United Methodist Church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, is in charge of arrangements.
