Dr. Christine "Chris" Czekai Bauman, 50, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born January 3, 1962 in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Walter & Ann (Fleming) Czekai. She married Mark Bauman July 5, 1996 in West Bend, Wisconsin. Chris received her undergraduate degree from Penn State and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was an associate professor of accounting at the University of Northern Iowa and a CPA. She served as the PricewaterhouseCoopers Professor of Accounting, Director of the UNI Master of Accounting Program, and Faculty Advisor to the UNI Accounting Club. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Mark P. Bauman, of Cedar Falls; her son, Matthew W. Bauman, of Cedar Falls; two sisters, Eva (John) Chessario, of Hartland, Wisconsin and Karen Spangler, of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; her brother, Joe Czekai, of Buffalo, New York, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Chris was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Stephen The Witness Catholic Student Center, 1019 W. 23rd St., Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, along with a Prayer Vigil at 7:00 p.m., and 11: a.m. until service time Saturday, both at St. Stephen The Witness Catholic Student Center.
