Chris Vognsen, Jr., 85, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. He was born August 10, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Chris and Jennie (Grarup) Vognsen, Sr. Chris married Eleanor Mae Cary on October 23, 1946 in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on August 2, 1992. Chris was a manager at Universal Industries for thirty-five years, and was a manager at Roskamp Manufacturing for five years, retiring in 1984. He was a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster of Troop 59. Chris also taught canoeing for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Waterloo Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include three sons, Steve (Jo Ann) Vognsen of Cedar Falls, Bill (Linda) Vognsen of Cedar Falls, and Scott Vognsen of New Hartford, Iowa; two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren; a brother, Lester (Letty) Vognsen, of Wesley Chapel, Florida; a sister, Myrna (Kenny) Hahn, of Columbus, Georgia, a sister-in-law, Pat Vognsen, of Cedar Rapids, and his special friend, Phyllis Larimer.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents and wife; a brother, George Vognsen, and two sisters, Ruth Timmer and Helen Hahn.

Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 23, 2008, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—8:00 pm Wednesday, where a 6:00 pm Fraternal Order of Eagle service will be conducted, and visitation one hour before service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross, Cedar Valley Hospice, or Quilts to Share.
