74, of Lakeland, Florida and formerly of Waterloo died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Bartow Memorial Hospital in Bartow, Florida. He was born September 4, 1929 at Waterloo, Iowa the son of Floyd & Thelma (Ralston) Fairbanks. Arnie and Genevieve Smelser were united in marriage June 24, 1948 at Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on February 26, 1995, Arnie was employed as a printer at Control-O-Fax in Waterloo for many years , then worked part time for his son after moving to Lakeland.
Survivors include two sons, Rick (Tammie) Fairbanks of Mulberry, Florida and Brian (Melissa) Fairbanks of Lakeland, Florida; one daughter, Susan (Dan) Geisler of Waterloo; two grandchildren, two brothers, Harry (Darlene) Fairbanks of Wellington, Kansas and Floyd (Doreen) Fairbanks of Long Beach, California; and two sisters, Beverly (Nick) Nichols of Chilicothe, Missouri and Sharon (Don) Shellenberger of Waterloo.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Michael Fairbanks, and one sister, Marilyn Whitesell.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. A memorial fund will be established.
