Carolyn "Carol" Sue Finger, 85, of Elk Run Heights, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on December 10, 2024 in Elk Run Heights. She was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on August 10, 1939, daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Ebaugh) Miller. She attended Finchford public schools, while making history as part of the last graduating class of Finchford High School in 1957. Remarkably, Carol never missed a single day of school, a testament to her dedication and resilience.
Carol's work ethic carried her through a fulfilling career. She began as a secretary at the Black Hawk County Courthouse, later becoming switchboard operator for Rath Packing until its closure. She then worked as a teller for Greyhound Park until its closure. Carol retired from Waterloo Public Schools as a member of the custodial and cafeteria staff and was favored by many of the kids. Later, she became one of the first employees at Isle Casino in Waterloo, working various positions until her official retirement.
A devoted lifelong member of Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Carol served as their President for many years. She also held the esteemed position of AMVETS President for the State of Iowa. Carol found great joy in volunteering with the AMVETS, visiting veterans' homes, and attending conventions. She was also a proud homeowner who cherished the home she built over the years. Carol's son, Ricki, built her a deck where she enjoyed sitting outside and people-watching. Her warmth, generosity, and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
Carol is survived by her children, Penni (John) Kipp, Randi (Michelle) Finger, and Ricki (Natalie) Finger; seven grandchildren, Billy (Sarah), Brandy (Cory), Ryan (Rachel), Brittany, Brie (Anthony), Codi, and Jordan; 21 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Theresa Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Kenny Miller and Virginia Peverill.
Visitation for Carol will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 11am-12:30pm, followed by her celebration of life service at 12:30pm at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Her graveside service will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorial contributions in Carol's honor may be directed to Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
