Carmen E. Halverson, 92, of Cedar Falls, died peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Cedar Falls.

She was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin, on July 31, 1934, the daughter of Edwin and Inez (Bobst) Gabrielson. Carmen grew up on her family’s tobacco farm in Viroqua and graduated from Viroqua Community Schools prior to attending Luther College for three years. Later, she completed her Bachelor’s Degree from UNI. It was at Luther during her sophomore year where Carmen met the love of her life, Gaylon Halverson. On June 25, 1955, Carmen and Gaylon were married in Carmen’s hometown of Viroqua. Carmen and Gaylon have been longtime members at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Carmen spent most of her time as a homemaker, helping raise her three children while taking care of the home. She also assisted the local Republican Party, acting as secretary, and served on the Cedar Falls City Council.

Carmen enjoyed golfing, traveling and shopping. She and Gaylon took many road trips across the country, spending time in nearly every state. Above all, Carmen loved spending time with her family and was always concerned about doing the best she could for her children.

Carmen is survived of her husband of 71 years, Gaylon Halverson of Cedar Falls; three children, Mike (Jana) Halverson of Lincoln, NE, Kristi Halverson of Hopkins, MN, and Jon Halverson of Cedar Falls; one granddaughter, Sarah Halverson of Denver, CO; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Maxine (Ralph) Lind.
