CARLYLE "NICK"
NICKLAUS, 66, of Hudson, Iowa, died of cancer on Sunday, August 1, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born August 5, 1937 in Bremer County, Iowa, the son Andrew and Melinda (Sauerbrei) Nicklaus. Nick married Joanne Wulf on October 7, 1962 at Hudson. He served with the U.S. Army at Fairbainks, Alaska from 1960-62 and was the Agronomy Manager at East Central Iowa Coop in Hudson for over 30 years, semi-retiring in 2002. Nick served on the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Board and was on the Advisory Board at Hawkeye Technical School ( Hawkeye Inst. of Technology). He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer in the FFA and was a member of the Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Nick served numerous positions at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hudson and worked on the chain gang at Hudson High School football games.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Hudson; a daughter, Teri (John) Neil of Independence, Iowa and a son, Todd (Amy) Nicklaus of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Paige, Kate and Jack Nicklaus; two brothers, Andy Nicklaus of Kellogg, Iowa and Leon (Mary) Nicklaus of Sumner, Iowa; five sisters, Darlene (Allen) Boedecker of Rockwell City, Iowa, Dorothy (Ray) Wehling of Sumner, Karla Nicklaus of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Janice (Jay) Schweer of Davenport, Iowa and Linda Neidert of Sumner; his mother-in-law, Bernice Wulf of Reinbeck, Iowa and two brothers-in-law, Fredrick (Beverly) Wulf and Lyle (Diann) Wulf, all of Hudson.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Velma Schnor and his father-in-law, Freddie Wulf.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls under the auspices of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Nick Nicklaus Memorial Agricultural Scholarship Fund.
