Carla Ann Crosby

Carla Ann Crosby, 71, passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics on Thursday, June 10, 2021.  She was born November 12, 1949, in Prairie du Chien, WI, daughter of Carl and Donna (Davies) Carlson.  Carla was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School with the Class of 1968 then attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology to become an RN.  She worked in a variety of health care settings in Wisconsin and Iowa but primarily in the Mother/Baby Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the University of Iowa Hospital and Covenant Medical Center from which she retired in 2000.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents; and her faithful companion, Ella Mae.  She is survived by 3 sisters: Donna "Janie" (David) Dichtelmiller of Waterloo; Mary Lou (Michael) Bridges of Columbus, IN and Beth (Scott) Ackles of Cedar Falls; 2 nieces: Michelle (Douglas) Bauman and Rebecca Ackles; 3 nephews: Mark (Kristy) Bridges, Matthew (Emily) Bridges and Carl "C.J." Ackles; 1 great-niece and 5 great-nephews; 1 aunt, Darlene Cahoon of McGregor; and several cousins.

A private service and burial were held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery of McGregor, Iowa.  Memorials may be directed to College Hill Lutheran Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Boys Town and condolences can be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .

Carla was passionate about her work and cared for the infants and families she served as though they were her own.  Mothers recount knowing their babies were in loving hands when she was on duty.  Carla took precious photos of the babies and their mothers to mark and remember their progress.  Caring was second nature for her and she would help anyone who needed it from giving her last dollar to the shirt off her own back.
