Carl enjoyed the outdoors whether he was hiking, fishing, planting trees or camping with Judy in their motorhome. A second generation immigrant, he grew up with German spoken in the home and remembered the language up to his final day faintly singing hymns "auf deutsch" with his family. Carl also enjoyed woodworking and fixing radios, a skill he acquired through a correspondence course. He and Judy were long term, active members at Unity Presbyterian Church.
